I always seem to have everything under control but life
just gets the best of me sometimes. I’d like to believe that I’m good at
comforting others and reassuring them that everything will be okay but
sometimes I can’t seem to get the concept through to myself. The fact that I
have to practise what I preach has been brought to me a few weeks ago but I
just couldn’t seem to find the right words. We are all humans and we get to a
point where it seems like we are being swallowed up by the storms of life.
I’m not saying that I’m incapable of practising what I
preach, but sometimes at the first sign of trouble, I cringe. What’s the first
thing you do when a friend or family member who is heavily burdened comes to
you? Of cos you’ll comfort them and tell them about a GOD who is able to do
exceedingly, abundantly and above all that we could ever imagine right? You’ll
tell them that there’s JESUS who can carry all their burdens for them right?
You’ll assure them that everything will be okay and that the plans GOD has for
us are not of failure but of success, right? You’ll let them know that GOD will
surely complete the work he started in them. It is one thing to comfort and
reassure someone that everything will be okay but it’s a totally different
thing when you have to practise that very same thing that you’ve been telling
others.
To be honest, the first thing that comes to my mind when
I face storms is, why me GOD? Maybe the first thing you think about is why it
seems like GOD has given up on you. Why does it seem like trouble follows you
wherever you go. Yes, we are humans and our emotions sometimes get the best of
us. But we can’t let our emotions get the best of us. I believe that as a
Christians, our lives should be ruled by the Holy Spirit and not our emotions.
It’s time to practise what we preach!!!
It’s time to use those comforting words to ourselves.
It’s time to tell ourselves that GOD gave us such battles because he knew we
could handle them. He will never give you more than what you can handle. It’s
time to snap out of it and be strong, believing GOD for the best. You quote the
bible and say “for I know the plans I have for you” “plans to prosper you and
give you a future” but the moment your life seems to be in jeopardy, you say
you’re ruined.
It is very essential to speak life whenever you are down.
If you have to say it out loudly to yourself, do it. We have a bible that is a
reference book to every aspect in our lives.
So I’ll share with a few verses that are comforting and
reassuring that indeed, GOD is at work.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, “declares
the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and
a future”.
Psalms 121:5-6 The Lord watches over you- the LORD is
your shade at your right hand; 6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon
by night
Deuteronomy 31:8 The LORD himself goes before you and
will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do
not be discouraged.
2 Samuel 22: 29-30 You are my lamp, O Lord; the Lord
turns my darkness into light. 30 with your help I can advance against a troop,
with my GOD I can scale a wall.
2 Chronicles 20:17 You will not have to fight this
battle. Take up your positions, stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, O judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged. Go
out to face them tomorrow and the LORD will be with you.
Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me all you who are weary and
burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For
my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

Philippians 4:6-7, 2 Corinthians 4:8-9, Proverbs 3: 5-6, Romans 8:18 and 28
